New Features

Hi all, just a small update from your friendly admin.

The site is coming along nicely for the moment.  Lot's of new features have been added that weren't available on the old site which should give the new one much more usability.

You would have noticed on registration that the site now requires a bit more information from  you.  I've come to the decision to keep this site semi-private for now while everything is being tested and content is being added.

This isn't to say that this site will be private.  If you all remember back to when GMail was in early beta, new users could only be invited to sign up for an account.  That's pretty much the route this site will take currently.  I will be letting current users send out invites to their colleagues for them to sign up on this site.

I'll make another post explaining what happened to the wiki (it's now called articles) and the new functionality.

NB.

For those who read the RCSIsmj and who recall the tempermental sign-up / login features of the old site, will be happy to know that there is a much better soloution in this site.  Although it doesn't look like it, that site and this site are one and the same.  All content is interchangable between each site and fully searchable.  The old "why is my article showing up in Google?" should also now be fixed.  There is a new content submission workflow in place and that should also alow the students who have an account here to directly send in the article for review.  The editors will just have to 1-click the submission to publish it on the website.   (That's of course unless you prefer your e-mail method).

Like the RCSIsmj site, this new site allows me to set up similar set-ups fairly quickly. (Just in case)

That's it for now.  I'll make more posts shortly that go into the new features in more detail.
